Many times you know something or someone is doing something right and/or legitimate when you either have 1. people copy or 2. People attack. There have been many attacks and myths thrown out about Young Living that I have recently been approached about and/or came across myself. The point of this blog post is to bust the myths that have been previously thrown out against Young Living. There are many companies that have made it a part of their marketing strategy to attack YL. They do this because they know they could never compete with YL’s quality of essential oils. There are particular companies that try and make false claims regarding the quality of YL oils. They claim they “have the best” because they use a particular therapeutic grading system that holds the standard of testing called the “EOBBD” grading system. This system is supposedly based out of a lab located in Europe. They state that this particular grading system is based on a “therapeutic grade” that YL does not follow and therefore falls short of quality. Myth número uno. The myth of “EOBBD” exposed: “EOBBD” is a bought out term that has been trademarked by this one particular essential oil company other than YL. If such a therapeutic certification grading system existed, there is no way an essential oil company could have trademarked the term. So there you have it, “EOBBD” is a made up term. In fact, I have a friend who did extensive research and investigating on this. She even tracked down this supposed “lab” in Europe and ended up finding out that it was linked to a vacant apartment in France that was for sale…..a vacant apartment! Woooowww….. So if you ever run across essential oil companies using the “EOBBD” grading system, it does not exist, period.
Myth 2: “Our company has higher quality essential oils than Young Living”……This I will subjectively argue against based on objective research done and witnessed by personal friends of mine. YL is the only company in the world that has an “open book” process that they like to call the “seed to seal” process. They actually let anyone go to their farms and labs and allow them to witness hands on, the ENTIRE seed to seal process. No other company has this open door policy. It would only make the most sense to trust the company who’s process you were actually able to witness, from how they acquire the oils to the process of bottling them for distribution; witnessing with your own eyes that no fillers have been added during that process. Bottom line, that’s the company I am going to trust.
When you are faced with the issue of which essential oil company has the highest quality of oils (because you are worth more than settling), ask yourself these questions: (I borrowed these from a friend who devoted years to researching about YL)
1. Do they have their own farms? 2. Do they have their own distilleries? 3. Do they have their own labs with advanced testing equipment? 4. Can you actually go and see the entire process with your own eyes….seeing the PROOF? 5. Can you even be a part of the entire process while getting hands-on essential oil production education? 6. Do they devote/invest in ongoing research and farms/distilleries in Israel, the “Holy Land”, and in the Middle East so we can be able to have access and use the oils that God intended for us to use from the beginning?………….”If you can’t answer yes to all of these questions, then why settle for anything else?”
Most companies order their essential oils from outside vendors and slap on a label on them claiming “we’re the best”. I don’t know about you, but I vote Young Living. That’s why I will continue to educate and be passionate about this company. People deserve the best. We are so often, if not always, getting cheated and lied to about what we use and consume. This is one of the many reasons I am constantly inspired to educate about our options. There is a pure alternative to everyday medicine and we deserve to know ALL options, period.

Pardon me, but, is there anyone else reading this that is scratching their head and thinking, “So much for small businesses!” How on earth can you possibly say, that if your {amazing, single-pure, medicinal grade} small “mom & pop” essential oil company does not have their own farms, distilleries, labs, etc., that they are “less than” what YL offers?? Let me be clear: I have no problem with YL, and my response is not about touting or discrediting any particular company. However, I have spent the last several years studying, learning, traveling to discover more about essential essences, and working closely with a small company who brings in oils from around the globe from very trusted sources. I’ve seen first-hand how they are handled, how each precious container is tested to make sure it is sound and viable, and then watched (and participated) as each bottle is hand-poured in ceremony and sacredness. Do we “own” any farms?! That isn’t even fathomable, not without major funding anyway, not to mention a much, much larger overhead in every sense of the word.
To say that one can only trust YL basically because they have built an empire, and have literally millions of dollars coming in and going out, is a huge dis-service to the “grass-roots” companies that offer perhaps something that YL can’t. It seems a rather narrow-minded view (and perhaps a bit boastful?) opinion that great essences can’t be found here in the States unless you’re using YL.
I totally understand the main reason for your post was most likely in light of all the drama between YL and that other company. 😉
I understand that you posted these questions from a friend who is invested in or with YL, and they are not your questions, per se, but…you posted them, so you get my response. 🙂 Do you believe that measuring the quality of an essence should be based on the massiveness of the company?? I work with a successful company as well, but it is barely a blip when compared to the massiveness of YL, mainly because the founder chose not to go MLM.
The message is this: Learn about your oils. Discern their purity through testing, sure, but hopefully, with your own nose and body. You can tell when something isn’t quite right once you get the hang of it, sometimes right away. Or, seek someone out who knows and have them help you–without an agenda or sales proposition hopefully–so you can trust what you’re getting. Learn about the differences in essential oils. Seek out companies that represent what resonates with the heart–and always be clear on the desire for true, natural healing that can be achieved through pure essential essences. Remember there are lots of people out there focusing on the “business” aspect of these things, putting the dollar before the deed, even though they’ll try to represent themselves otherwise. I’ve met some pretty cunning characters in this field, believe you me. Seek, choose wisely, and be informed, don’t trust blindly, and do your work.
Perhaps I can’t answer “yes” to all those (very limiting and expensive) questions you posed, but I can answer YES to a few, and in my opinion, to the ones that truly matter: YES, I have seen the process with my own eyes, and taken part in it, while visiting some of our farmers in France, to be specific. YES, I have witnessed the amount of devotion it takes to build and maintain the relationships required to acquire truly pure essential oils, from all over the “Holy Land” which in my terms, is Mother Earth. And this is why it’s important to say something. Enough with the monopoly…let’s focus on helping people, and helping them find the right tools, like essences, to help them along their path of healing. One size does not fit all. I do appreciate your passion for helping people to choose the best and know their options regarding healing themselves naturally…and I share that passion with you. Just know that YL isn’t the only essence company out there that offers pure essences. There is beauty and wisdom in seeking pure essences from amazing farms and farmers from around the world, not to mention, offering a glorious, diverse selection of Earth’s riches.
In Gratitude and Peace…
Thank you for your reply. I will respond with this…I choose YL not because of it’s massiveness, nor because of it’s “financial status”. I choose YL because of what I have personally and extensively researched; what I have witnessed within my family usage of these oils; my personal friends who have gone to these farms and experienced hands on, those same people who have built a relationship with Gary Young (CEO) and who have told me how humble and devoted he is to excellence…It really saddens me that YL gets a bad rep because of being such a successful company…hold up, wait! that doesn’t even make sense! How can that even go hand in hand? Doesn’t it mean that because a company has grown to become so successful and trustworthy something is being done right? Not to mention, Gary Young started this company on his own. His hard earned research and still consistent hands on harvesting daily as well as spending countless personal hours in the labs himself. He isn’t some CEO who sits back and collects checks. He continues to devote countless hours working to provide the highest grade oil extracted from the plant source. Also, a little cool fact about him and the company standards that just happened recently…they just had a shortage of a particular spruce tree needed for a popular blend of essential oil that they had to temporarily be out of stock of. He was able to get his hands on a rare harvest of these particular trees and was able to make a batch of oils out of this harvest. Because the oils are tested very extensively to the highest standard, this particular batch from the harvest fell just shy of the company’s quality standards, less than 10% shy. He could have never let anyone know about this and made a profit of over one million dollars. Instead, he would not settle for selling anything less than the highest quality because he believes consumers should not have to settle. This was very encouraging for me to learn about. Another fact about this turned down batch…let’s just say another well known company bought it out and made a profit off of it by taking advantage of the time when YL was out of stock. Interesting….
I certainly do not like to bash other companies. That’s not what it’s about for me. This, as it was stated in the post, was a subjective view based on extensive research. I can only provide what I have been taught from trustworthy sources as well as what I have learned by doing my own research. I believe people deserve to know what this company is all about, not about it’s financial success or the fact that it’s a MLM, but because it strives on excellence and providing consumers with the highest quality they can dish out. I am not denying that there are not trustworthy companies out there. I am simply defending the standards of what YL represents and the “myths” that have been told about the company. It is not a bad thing to go with a big company that has the means to test the therapeutic grade of the oils how it should be. I would personally rather that. Hence, is why I promote them. The purpose to this post and all of my posts is to educate people and to assist in providing them with resources to better manage their health the natural way. I was tired of having to listen to so many people bash YL because of it’s financial success so I guess I got on a little “soap box” for a bit, lol. I apologize if you misinterpreted what the point of why I posted that. Also, I agree that we are on the same general page and why it is that we are just two passionate people about nature’s medicine. However, in the same purpose of why you responded in the first place, also remember even the big companies involve the same passionate and trustworthy people. If you have noticed, YL (the true leaders in the company, not speaking for the numerous distributors) make it a point to never slander or bash another essential oil company. That’s just not how they do things. Again, I appreciate your time in reading my blog and commenting.
Cheers!
Also, I just want to mention what I failed to clarify before….when I broke down the checklist of “quality of essential oils” I could have gone in extensive detail about each one, but didn’t find it necessary I guess until now….when i say they have their own farms: all organic, monitored by people within the company 24/7, never tampered with land (pesticides stay in soil for decades and the USDA only requires a farm to claim “organic” after 3 yrs of no pesticides which is pretty much false advertising)….when I mention if they “have their own distilleries”: YL uses surgical stainless steel distilleries which make a huge difference during the extraction process. Most companies use aluminum or carbon steel…..regarding their labs: they have some of the highest ranked scientists and biochemists who test these oils over 7-8 different ways to ensure they are providing consumers the purest form of the healing properties of these oils extracted. Not many companies if any test these that many ways. The equipment/machinery they use have to be specifically programmed to test these oils certain ways. Other companies may claim they use similar or the same equipment but only YL has them programmed to perform to it’s elite capacity (I know this because the manufacturer of the equipment only has done this for YL and my friend has met with the scientist who actually transferred his job from the manufacturer to YL because he was so impressed with how Gary Young presented himself)…..Yes it takes the financial capabilities to test the oils certain ways to make sure the company is achieving the highest of standards. My question is, wouldn’t someone rather that and would trust that more? Like I said, that’s just my subjective opinion.
It’s all good: you don’t have to keep explaining. As I originally wrote, my response had nothing to do with criticizing YL or anyone else, but to bring awareness that there are other companies out there that provide absolutely beautiful, single-pure essences, but on a smaller scale by choice. There is a Spirit to the essences…and that, my friend, can not be “tested” by machines. Well, I suppose it can, but to a detriment. Taking all the scientific measures to ensure everything is ‘perfect’ or whatever, takes out the ability to ‘feel’ the energy of the essences, and actually, can dim their light–or in a lot of cases–extinguish it entirely. Our man-made ideals of how we’re supposed to deal with nature and her gifts–to make her more pure and perfect somehow–is folly. The plants and trees want for us to feel their energy and commune with them, not run them through the wringer. One of the simplest, and most beautiful distilleries I witnessed, was at a dear family’s farm in France. Their Lavender is still the most beautiful, pure essence I’ve ever experienced; absolutely singing with her high vibration. No further testing required. 😉 Tuning into the Spirit should be our first, and probably only, real ‘test’ needed. Unfortunately, our society is hard-wired to solely rely on science to “prove” things to them. And I find that ironic, given the ‘nature’ of the subject we’re talking about, and the ‘Spirit’ in which we all supposedly wish to feel more connected to, and trust in.
Thank you for your responses. Have a beautiful day.
I totally understand where you are coming from and respect your stance. We agree with a lot of things just a somewhat different frame of mind. Nothing wrong with either perspective. My posts are coming from the beauty of both sides however. I do have a medical, scientific background and many people appreciate to know how though there is much beauty and “essence” in God’s given nature there is also science behind it that proves it’s healing power on real physical and physiological issues (as well as the emotional and spiritual side) : )
