A Momma’s Instinct

It is so easy to get discouraged when choosing the “all natural way” to treat your kids and their sickness/issues that arise.

Why is it that we allow ourselves to feel discouraged?

I guess it’s because giving the “traditional prescription/OTC med” was all we were taught; it’s all we know and we are considered to be negligent if we don’t use the meds “everyone else” is using.

My kid has a fever….our programmed frame of mind thinks….

oh no, I have to hurry and break this fever, where’s the Tylenol?!

What we don’t realize or think during these moments of vulnerability are the good effects of fever…it’s our body’s natural way of fighting off an infection. The reason why in essence it is good to break a high fever is really for the comfort level of the child. Go with how they are acting.

Are they lethargic? Are they still playful?

Only you know you’re child. If you are not comfortable with how they are acting then calmly ease their discomfort. Trust that what you are doing is okay. If your child seems to be fine and his/her mood is still “normal” then don’t stress about what we were taught to stress about. If your “momma’s instinct” tells you that you are not comfortable with how they are acting, then comfort them. Tylenol used every now and again is not necessarily a bad thing (although synthetic additives and artificial dyes aren’t the greatest), just as long as you use it on those rare occasions where the child’s discomfort needs to be treated immediately or the natural remedy didn’t affect the child quick enough (the immune system may not always respond in a “quick fix” manner). Though I have my personal discomforts and negative points of view of OTC meds, rare occasions I myself may use them. However, since I’ve used more of my “momma’s instinct”, I never really have to anymore. What I mean by this is,

I use my first line of defense: my child’s immune system.

I focus on, what can I do to make my child’s immune system respond the way it was created to do so before it was compromised?….How can I allow it to respond better/stronger?

Instead of masking the very signals/symptoms the immune system was created to give by just popping in some OTC meds, I focus on the source of the problem. You’ve heard me mention a lot about Young Living essential oils, and yes I use them to help fight the source as well as using a few other measures.

These oils are phenomenal. They assist the body’s immune system in fighting off the infection/issue by providing oxygen to transport to cells where’s it’s needed and they fight off and killoutside pathogens/bacteria/viruses. They allow the immune response to function normally and that’s what I like about them. Though these oils have been little miracles in a bottle, there’s also other aspects of health that need to be addressed.

The proper diet and environmental exposure play a huge role in wellness as well. If your kids are sick, focus on providing them with the proper foods that will replenish their nutritional needs and deficiencies.

Research,

Research which foods are rich in the nutrients needed for the illness that the child is undergoing. Instead of giving your child processed foods and sugars that are full of toxins which feed the pathogen terrorizing the immune system, give them pure whole organic foods rich in vitamins and minerals.

Yes, it is time consuming and sometimes more work to do it this way, but isn’t your child’s well being worth it? If you allow your child to fight off the sickness the way he/she was intended to do so, they will be able to fight back harder the next time and possibly not even catch the bug because of built up immunity through previous exposure. The human body is such an amazing being. God created it that way. Allow it to perform with excellence by providing it with the right armor to do so.

Another factor is hygiene.Keep your kids as clean as your sanity will allow you to lol. The most important thing is to keep their hands washed as much as it is feasible for a kid with still allowing them to be KIDS : ). Keep their toys clean and disinfected (btw, there are natural ways of doing this without using toxic chemicals).

Can you always prevent your kids from catching something?…..no way! It’s not logical so don’t stress about it when sickness does come knocking on your door. All we can do is our best, keeping our “momma’s instinct” of balance.

 BALANCE, key word.

There is no such thing as flawless parenting. We wouldn’t be able to learn properly if there were no mistakes being made. The “perfect” parent is what is “perfect” in the eyes of your child. Your child doesn’t require much to be satisfied. It’s the little things that matter to them. A simple, I LOVE YOU…. A HUG…. PLAYTIME…. Someone to lay on and trust to be there to nurture them when they are sick. If we redesign the way society has trained us to think, we will create a sense of

peace of mind that will never cease.

Instead of allowing that “freak out” moment to take over, listen to that instinct. Reach for something pure and wholesome first….

Oils, hydrating with water, steam bath, cool bath, elderberry syrup, natural sources of vit C, nutrient rich foods, removing all things processed, etc….

Be patient (not everything will happen overnight, even with prescription meds…give it time). Seek advice from those who have gone through the same things and who support your instinct. Obviously seek professional medical advice for diagnosing and suggestions,

but don’t let anyone pressure you to do something you are not comfortable with doing.

Search for a medical professional who will support natural ways of treatment. There is a time and a place for prescription meds and modern ways of treatment, but it is not always the “go-to” method. Don’t doubt that “momma’s instinct”. Surround yourself with positive points of view and get a good support system you can lean on in those vulnerable times (which we are all entitled to have).

It’s okay momma, you’re doing a great job. You CARE. You LOVE. Continue to keep up the good work. Continue to EDUCATE yourself and others around you. Stay BALANCED. Stay PATIENT.  You are reframing a “healthy” way of living daily. You got this momma!
